It’s no surprise that back pain is one of the most common problems people experience, and the single most common cause of lost time from work and lost productivity. Adults and kids can experience back pain, which commonly result from any of the following:
  • Simple muscle strain
  • Working around the house or yard
  • Poor posture sitting or standing
  • Sleeping improperly
  • Accidents, falls, and sports-related injuries
  • Improper lifting
  • An overloaded backpack
  • Pregnancy
  • Being overweight

How Chiropractic Helps

The first objective in chiropractic is to detect if these subluxations are present. If they are, to locate exactly where the subluxations are present. Then, using various chiropractic techniques Dr. Freedman adjusts the subluxations, relieving the irritation to the nervous system, and allowing the body to heal and function much better. Dr. Freedman taught chiropractic adjusting techniques at New York Chiropractic College. He has a very high level of expertise in offering techniques ranging from the traditional “twisting and popping” methods, to those that involve absolutely no “twisting and popping” of the spinal joints. Dr. Freedman offers personalized chiropractic care to each patient, based upon their clinical needs and individual preferences. This helps each patient heal in a way that works and is comfortable for them.

All the contributing factors to back problems can be physical, chemical or emotional stress.

  • Physical stress: If a person isn’t sleeping properly (e.g., sleeping with too many pillows or a bad mattress), or has poor posture, they often experience back strain.
  • Chemical stress: Food additives, medication, improper diet, and too much alcohol, caffeine and nicotine have a negative impact on the nervous system and the body’s ability to work as well as it can.
  • Emotional stress: Unsurprisingly, adults and kids have been emotionally stressed because of COVID, in addition to the day-to-day challenges that we’ve had to endure. Emotional stress causes the muscles to tighten up. If the muscles are imbalanced, the muscles pull the spine out of alignment, irritate nerves, create subluxation and abnormal body function.

In most cases, if a person has a healthy body and rests correctly, the back pain works itself out and feels better. Some people, however, have persistent back pain that doesn’t go away after a day or two. They’re taking harmful medications and possibly having time consuming and expensive physical therapy. They may have even had back surgery, but still have pain, weakness and limited movement.

One of the most common reasons why the back doesn’t heal from back pain is because of a condition called vertebral subluxation complex, or subluxation. A subluxation is a common condition not diagnosed within medicine, because medical doctors are not trained and licensed to detect, locate and correct subluxation. Chiropractors are unique because they are the only primary health care providers specially trained and licensed to detect, locate and correct subluxation. Subluxation occurs when the vertebrae in the spine go out of alignment to the point where the spinal cord and nerves become irritated. This irritation causes a disruption in the natural flow of energy that controls all function, including the healing process.

Lightening the Load for Kids

Many kids are toting backpacks that are much too heavy. As a result, children and teens can end up with back pain and poor posture. Dr. Freedman is a certified Backpack Safety America™ instructor. He has presented to area schools, P.T.A.s, scout troops, the NJ State Assembly Education Committee, and was on national and local television teaching backpack safety. This includes how backpacks cause injury to kids and adults, as well as how to choose the right backpack, and how to pack, lift and wear it correctly.

Hope & Healing

By adjusting the spine and relieving the pressure off the nerves, it opens up the body’s ability to self-heal and function better.

“I have patients who have had failed back surgeries-and found relief from the care I provide them-because the surgery didn’t address the root cause of their problem,” said Dr. Freedman.
