When it comes to healing from a painful condition or performing at your best, there are things that most physicians are not telling their patients. To help you make more informed decisions about the care of your body, I am going to share seven things that I’ve learned over nearly 43 years in practice and regularly share with my patients. I am amazed when people tell me their physicians have never mentioned any of the following:
- The doctor does not do the healing. Doctors’ training enables them to diagnose and treat disease using a variety of methods and treatments. It is the body’s job to pick up where the doctor leaves off that takes you the rest of the way. Cut yourself and you can see the healing process working as the wound repairs over time. Similar invisible processes work inside of us. If we break a bone, have a bacterial or viral invasion, or develop abnormal cells that go rogue, our body’s natural recuperative systems go to town to heal the damage or eliminate the threat. Fluctuations in temperature, heart and respiration rates, how we digest our food, and how old cells are replaced with new, healthy cells happens unconsciously – as long as there is no interference to these processes.
- Medical testing and diagnosis do not provide a pathway to wellness. It discovers a pathway toward treating diseases.
- Medications do not cure you. They work to suppress symptoms, such as pain or inflammation. Many are a godsend and may even help to save a life in crisis. But most have hazardous side effects that can cause other problems that can be worse than the original condition the medications were meant to treat. In fact, prolonged use of many medications can make you more sick and defer proper care.
- Energy carried over the nervous system controls all the functions in your body. These include your ability to heal, function well and age gracefully.
- Anything that alters the proper flow of that energy makes it harder for your body to heal and function well. The most common place this occurs is in the spine. When the spine’s alignment is abnormal, nerves become irritated. This creates a physiological short circuit of the body’s systems. They do not work as well. Imagine how your car would run if it was not firing on all cylinders.
- Removing interference to energy transmission causes your body to function better — always. This means your natural ability to move well, self-heal and fight disease is better — the same way your car drives better after a proper tune up.
- The best time to find out if energy is flowing properly is as soon as you are born because spinal nerve irritation commonly occurs during the birth process. The next best time is right now.
How Chiropractic Contributes
Health and illness are a process. They are influenced by the choices you make in your lifestyle. If you make the time for wellness by eating right, moving well, getting proper rest, and thinking good thoughts and including periodic chiropractic checkups, you will make less time for illness. Chiropractic care offers much more than an effective treatment for back pain or other maladies. Rather, it is a unique whole-body approach. The focal point involves checking to detect, locate and correct interferences in energy flow in the body, clinically referred to as vertebral subluxation complex, or subluxations. A chiropractic adjustment of the subluxation is the art of relieving pressure off the nerves. This restores proper communication of energy between the brain and the body’s systems.
Everything works much better when things are not out of kilter. For example, your muscles are better balanced, pull and push stronger, resist strain better, and recover faster and more completely when injured. That is why teams have a chiropractor on staff. Chiropractic care supports better digestive function the same way a tuned motor properly burns fuel. The better all the body’s systems work, and work in harmony with one another, the better your body can express its innate ability to heal and be stronger.
There are a variety of chiropractic adjusting techniques, from the traditional “twisting and popping” methods to those that involve absolutely no twisting, popping, and cracking of the joints. Adults, children, and people in all occupations appreciate what chiropractic care offers them. Progressive companies encourage chiropractic care because a healthier workforce is more productive, manages stress better, and has less time lost from work.
